Our sweet little boy, who is now 16 weeks old, is growing into a big, sweet boy. He came to us at 7 weeks old after someone threatened to dump him on the street to fend for himself. He was immediately taken our trusting veterinary partner, Dr. Anthony Scriffignano at @vah.mah Verona Animal Hospital. He was emaciated, malnourished, and dehydrated, and his abnormal skull, awkward gait, and slow menace (blinking) response were all cause for concern. Next, we brought Phoenix for an ophthalmology consult with the great Dr. Holmburg at the @animaleyecenterofnj Animal Eye Center of NJ, which confirmed his poor menace response and some vision impairments. This, paired with the malformation of the shape of his skull, confirmed that he will require further assessment with a neurological consult. Next stop was the best neurologist we know, Dr. Glass at @redbankvet Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, who gave Phoenix a thorough examination. He, too, was concerned about all the findings and felt it could be a few things, including a congenital deformity of his brain, or that he could possibly have an infection, or even inflammation of the brain. However, the only way to know more information would be to do an MRI.Phoenix is now scheduled for an MRI and once we know more about what his medical condition will be he will be looking for a furever home.
